#1 Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt Folder
This is an extremely sharp, expensive-looking knife made of premium steel. The design and execution of the blade and handle are superb. The liners and locking mechanism look much more reliable compared to most other Spyderco knives. The Vallotton Sub-Hilt is a relatively heavy folder. Its weight is similar to Buck 110 but it feels more balanced due to the heavier blade and lighter handle.
The knife has many unique features and most of them are extremely practical. It features an ambidextrous thumb stud for opening in either hand (for all those lefties), and doubles as a stop pin keeping the blade from rotating open beyond the locked position.
The cutting abilities of the knife are outstanding. Undoubtedly, the true knife enthusiasts have a lot more to say about the Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt Knife. Overall, it is aesthetically-looking, well-built, and multi-task utility knife. The best pocket knife made by Spyderco in my opinion.
#2 Spyderco C177GP Roc G-10 Pocket KnifeView Product
We know Spyderco is known for their distinctive leaf blade designs, but this cleaver-like design by knifemaker Serge Panchenko takes them out of their standard format. The design of the Roc seems like a blend of a straight razor and a meat cleaver, all rolled into a cool folding knife design.
Made of GV-10 stainless steel, the Spyderco Roc G-10 Plain Edge Knife features textured grooves on the spine to give your thumb a solid grip. The large hole in the blade allows for easy one-handed opening, and the handle integrates a pocket clip for easier carrying. The handle contains a stainless-steel liner for protecting the blade, and the open back construction makes it easier to clean and maintain than some other blades. Could this be the best pocket knife?
#3 Spyderco Police Model Stainless Steel Knife
Developed over 20 years ago by Spyderco, this model is a sleek and useful EDC knife. The Spyderco Police Model stainless steel knife has a rounded edge on the handle to ensure a comfortable carry in your pocket, but can also be carried as a belt knife or boot knife with the integrated clip. This clip is also great for keeping the knife from falling down into your pockets and moving around.
Although it comes in other colors, the stainless-steel model continues to be one of the most popular models available. When closed, it’s about 4 inches and when open, about 7.5 inches.
#4 Spycerco Paramilitary 2 G-10 Black Blade KnifeView Product
This knife is simply awesome! The look is incredibly sleek with a well crafted blade that is one tough mother. The G-10 handle is narrowed at the end to improve handling movement. It incorporates the new pivot system that makes opening and closing the blade feel a lot smoother and a four way clip for carrying tip up or tip down. Be aware though, this knife is slightly bigger in the hand than most standard sized pocket knives, however for the price of around $150, it is certainly well worth every penny. Don’t take my word for it, check out the numerous reviews this top seller has received so far.
#5 Klecker Hunting & Tactical Folding KnivesView Product
For those looking for a higher end knife, but not in the league of custom ones, you can check out the Sice from Klecker Knives. If you are new to the Klecker line you will be impressed with the quality of these blades and the unique locking system they use. This lock-back design has the spring, lock-bar and detent all integral to the frame structure.
This is a design that others have worked to imitate and for under $100, this is not as expensive as some of the custom investment knives and still worth the price for the durability and design.
#6 Kershaw 1555BW Cryo Blackwash Folding Knife
The popular Cryo now comes in a great looking BlackWash Finish for that already-broken-in look. This Kershaw-Rick Hinderer design is built of pure stainless steel that lets the design shine through. Like all of Rick’s knives, the Cryo benefits from Rick’s real world experience as a fire fighter and EMT. It’s designed to be a sturdy knife that’s still aesthetically pleasing and feels good in the hand. The black-oxide BlackWash coating gives it that well-worn look and enhances corrosion resistance.
For secure blade lock up, the Cryo offers a tough frame lock with lockbar stabilization. For fast and easy one-handed opening, it also features Kershaw’s SpeedSafe assisted opening, accessible with either the built-in flipper or the thumb stud. The deep-carry clip makes it a discreet pocket companion too.
Slightly smaller than some Hinderer pocket knives, the Cryo with BlackWash is a superb tactical knife for everyday carry. You get the tactical, hard-use looks you’re looking for, a Hinderer design, and SpeedSafe opening in this amazingly affordable Kershaw that’s destined to be an EDC favorite.
#7 Kershaw Funxion Series Knives with SpeedSafe
Kershaw has an awesome line of knives that I’m sure most of you have seen before and appreciate the quality, usefulness and appearance. What I’m crazy about is their Funxion Series which consists of three groups called the EMT, DIY and Outdoor Knives. Each knife incorporates small tools within the knife specific to the type of user they are targeted to. How awesome is that!
Each knife has a main blade that is 8Cr13MoV steel and a flip out carabiner clip and also features a neat locking mechanism that keeps the blade from opening when the clip is open.
The EMT version has a serrated portion of the blade, where the others are straight. To make the satin finished blade stay in your hand, there are rubberized inserts in the handles for extra grip and a side-mounted pocket clip for EDC. Extra tools include a cord cutter, screwdriver tip, hex wrench and a glass breaker at the end of the knife handle.
The Outdoor version, in addition to the main blade contains a serrated saw blade and like the others, has a nice flip-action opening mechanism for the main blade. The DIY version (my personal favorite) contains the main blade, an extra tool providing a bottle opener, hex wrench, and screwdriver tip.
#8 CRKT Squid Folding Pocket Knife
If you are looking for a small, pocket-friendly folding knife, it’s worth your time to check out the Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT) Squid Folding Pocket Knife. It has a solid-feeling folding frame with lock and includes an integrated pocket clip so you don’t lose it.
As with other CRKT items, it’s a solid, quality knife and designed for real-world use. It’s made of stainless steel, weighing in at 3.4oz. With a blade length of a little over 2 inches, it’s not going to intimidate anyone, but will certainly be a handy pocket knife when you need to make a quick cut.
#9 Baladeo Papagayo Folding Knife
Baladeo delivers a simple and solid folding knife that is pocket friendly, weighing in at just 0.3 oz. The handle is a soft touch handle made of TPE plastic and uses a simple blade lock with a back release to ensure safety in use. The 420-stainless blade is just 3 inches long and at less than $15, a great find for anyone’s EDC kit.
#10 Snap-On Folding Key Ring Knife
Here is an officially licensed Snap-On Pocket Keychain Knife. Although it’s not going to save you from bears, this can be a very handy one to keep with your keys, in the car, or attached to you backpack for basic cutting and opening.
The knife has a skeleton frame with locking mechanism so it can take some cutting force. The high-carbon stainless steel blade has a Teflon coating to help cut through the task at hand. It comes with an integrated clip and keychain ring, and folds up neatly with rounded edges for a smooth carry.
You can use it at as a key fob, or as a small pocket carry knife for when a larger blade is overkill.
